Money or wealth because of everything it can buy has long been humanity’s idol of choice and we are not immune to its temptations. Jesus has set us free from this slavery and idolatry of money and changed our view and attitudes about it. We now see it as something to manage and give away to help others in need, especially in their need to hear the gospel. So, St. Paul encourages us to excel in the grace of giving.
